Honeycomb themed playground

We worked with Burhill School to transform an open grass space into a social and interactive hub that would be enjoyed by the children in their free time at break whilst also providing an enriching outdoor learning environment. This part of the school grounds sits in front of their nature area in which they keep bees, so to tie in with this we featured honeycomb patterns within the design in the surfacing and structures. The area contains a beautiful ‘honeypot hut’ raised den, alongside two other wooden den structures, two social seating areas all leading towards a bark digging space with pulleys and carved bowls, creating a mini magical village feel to the setting! Built from robinia and featuring a cedar shingle roof Burhills ‘Honey pot hut’, pictured to the right, has been a huge hit! Accessed via a wonky ladder the den has a fixed bench and look-out window - the perfect little space for imaginative play or a quiet moment. The storycircle with stump seats and a chalkboard provides the perfect place for an area to bring the children together for outdoor learning - they are thrilled with the new additions to their playground.
